Gouri {Γουρι}: a Greek word meaning an ornament which brings good luck - a lucky charm.

The tradition in Greece is to gift a 'gouri' for the New Year, especially when visiting a home for the first time so that the home will be lucky and the family will enjoy prosperity in the New Year. A gouri also makes an excellent wedding gift.
